THE DAY BEGINS…
The day begins with a polite “knock knock” on your door and a tray of tea or coffee. The time is 5am. The world is at peace and around you is the sound of the lake – water lapping the shore, the wind riling up the waves.
After you first “cuppa” and taking care of your morning ritual, you are escorted to the main living area. The sun is rising and there is a freshness to the air that you don’t experience in a city. Your guide joins you as you enjoy an al fresco continental breakfast on the beach and then it is a short walk to the open vehicle for the morning’s game drive and walk in the Matusadona National Park. The bush is pristine and the bird life plentiful (350 species have been identified in the area).
The drive takes you through the concession and into the national park – including both the shoreline and interior. Your guide stops the vehicle and after a brief safety talk, you set off on foot. The knowledge of our Zimbabwean guides is astonishing in its diversity – flora, fauna, birdlife, animal behaviour. Your mind will be filled with information. You may be surprised by a close encounter with the plentiful elephant.
On your return to camp, you are famished and in time for a wonderful brunch and as the heat rapidly rises you can retire to your tent for a brief siesta or poolside for a dip.
In the afternoon, after a refreshing high tea and “sinful” treat, you set off on a boat cruise to the Sanyati Gorge. The ecology is vastly different from what you experienced in the morning. Your trip down the tributary is stunning visually. The return boat trip will have you stopping for sundowners and snacks as the sun sets over the lake. An African sunset is truly awe-inspiring.
Back in camp and after a shower, you are escorted to the beach where around the campfire you can share your day with other guests before your private dinner. Your guide will check in with you about the next day’s activities…
