Kenya is supposedly where the African Safari was born (Safari means “Journey” in Swahili). It is the most revered of Africa’s safari destinations and is best known for the annual Great Migration. It is a country filled with romance, thrill and adventure – nothing says “classic safari” quite like a Kenyan safari.

The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves and is known for its wide-open plains and excellent year-round concentration of game, including the more than two million wildebeest, zebras and other antelopes that make up the famous Great Migration. Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible and most spectacular eco-systems and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing eco-system.

Amboseli is one of Kenya’s elite National Parks and known for the sight of hundreds of big- tusked elephants set against the famous backdrop of Africa’s highest free-standing mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m).  The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust.”

Laikipia is natural haven made up of ranches and conservancies and is located on the edge of the Northern Kenyan Frontier. Laikipia which means “treeless plain” in the Maasai language is a vast plain where a mosaic of farms and cattle ranches, conservationists and ranchers alike work together in this wildlife refuge that supports large numbers of game including the big five.

Chyulu Hills is one to visit if you like exploring caves. It forms a 100 kilometer-long Volcanic Field and is known for having the longest lava tube in the world. This rugged national park boasts some of the best views of Kilimanjaro and its breath-taking landscapes are home to a wonderful selection of game including buffalo, antelope, elephant, leopard, wildebeest and zebra.

Named after the local Samburu tribe, Samburu Game Reserve lies to the north of Mount Kenya and boasts a wide variety of wildlife including the rare northern special five species (Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx). It is a community-based wilderness with fascinating opportunities to engage with the locals and experience some unique activities like the Samburu Singing Wells where members of the Samburu tribe take their cattle and sing as they extract water from the wells.

With its 17 kilometres of beautiful, flawless, soft white sand, Diani Beach has been voted one of Africa’s leading beach destinations. From visiting its marine national park, diving with dolphins and sea turtles, spotting whale sharks, kitesurfing, skydiving and nightlife, Diani offers a range of activities for everyone.

Nairobi is situated on the Nairobi River and is not only the largest and fastest growing city in Kenya, but one of the largest in Africa. It has a population of three million plus and is known as the safari capital. Unlike other cities, Nairobi is surrounded by 113 km² of plains, cliffs and forest that makes up the city’s Nairobi National Park.
