Possibly Southern Africa’s most diverse travel destination, Zimbabwe is blessed with a myriad of landscapes with vast areas of the country set aside as national parks.

The Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, are located in the far northwest of Zimbabwe on the border with Zambia, halfway along the length of the Zambezi River. The world’s largest falling curtain of water, they are not to be missed.

The Zambezi National Park, where a wide variety of outstanding African wildlife can be seen, including all members of the Big Five plus eland, giraffe, kudu, sable, waterbuck and impala.

Zimbabwe’s largest National Park and premier safari destination, Hwange is home to all of the big five including Rhino with sightings of large herds of elephant and buffalo very common. Seeing leopard and wild dogs is not unlikely at this beautiful Zimbabwe safari destination.

World heritage site Mana Pools National Park, is one of Africa’s most magical wilderness areas where the Zambezi river gives life to an amazing diversity of flora and fauna, all of which rely on one another to maintain this ‘garden of eden.’

In the bottom southeast corner of the country lies Gonarezhou National Park,  ‘the place of elephants’, and a vast connected wilderness and Zimbabwe safari area that now forms part of a transfrontier park stretching into South Africa and Mozambique.

Lake Kariba, encompassing Matusadona National Park, is a vast body of water with incredible surrounding wilderness and unique landscapes. It has become a popular holiday destination for locals and foreigners alike.

Harare, located in the north of the country, is the modern day capital city and home to most of the country’s population. Harare is a bustling African city with a well laid out central business district, circled by attractive leafy suburbs and townships, where visitors can find handmade goods and gifts to take home from their Zimbabwe safari.

Bulawayo is the country’s second largest city and it is located in the south of Zimbabwe. A forty-five minute drive south of Bulawayo finds one in the Matobo Hills National Park, a place of exceptional beauty, due to its extensive and ever changing granite rock formations. This area bears distinct geographical, environmental and cultural significance.

In the middle of the country lies the greatest ruined city in Africa, south of the Egyptian Pyramids. It is known as Great Zimbabwe and is believed to have been built sometime during the 11th century when the Zimbabwe Kingdom controlled trade in the region.

The Eastern Highlands is a mountain range stretching for 300km down the eastern side of Zimbabwe, forming the country’s eastern border with Mozambique. The mountains are characterised by lush highland grasslands and forest areas with clear fresh water streams and hiking trails, allowing visitors a chance to work up an appetite on their Zimbabwe safari.
